I woke up to an urgent text from my client asking me to please come to the hospital, things were getting really intense and Mama here was asking for me to come. Their planned birth center delivery had a change of plans and they were instead at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in East Norriton to welcome their first born.
I grabbed my bags and headed onto the PA turnpike to my first birth photography client’s delivery! When I arrived, the room was set up perfectly. They knew what to bring with them to make their hospital birth as close to cozy as one can get. Birth affirmations were all over the walls, calming music was playing, a ball was set up and actively used, and Mama had her aromatherapy rollers and diffusers out.
There were a lot of ups and downs for the parents during the labor, but eventually night turned to morning and with the beautiful dawn of the day, the time came for Mama to get ready to meet her babe. With an amazing support team of Dad, her doula, midwife, and nurses, after a short time baby boy arrived and Mom reached down to pull him instinctively to her, exclaiming how happy she was to finally meet him, and that she knew he was a boy! After some really tender moments of snuggling and chest-to-chest time, baby boy was checked over (“he’s perfect”), nursed for the first time like a pro, and then eventually got to hang out with Dad.
Documenting this birth story was a complete dream come true: from being there to capture the ups and downs of their birth, the incredible strength of this amazing mother, the calming support of her husband and doula, to their son’s first breath and the intense love that filled the room in the following hours.
