Guys, I walked away from this session with chills. Actual chills and goosebumps, despite the fact that it was a 94 degree day in October.
This mama had reached out earlier in the summer for a family photography session in Ocean City, NJ. Between schedules and everything, we ultimately scheduled it out for early October. There would be less crowds and cooler temps. We definitely had less crowds, and if you’ve been to the Jersey shore, you absolutely know the meaning of boardwalk crowds, but the cooler temps…well, not so much on this particular day.
We had the beautiful vast boardwalk by Gillian’s Wonderland Pier practically to ourselves and walked for a bit. And ran…cuz this little guy LOVED to run.
Then we ended up on the beach. Just when I thought the sunset couldn’t get any prettier it did. And then it did again. And again. And again. At one point, I realized the waves were working their way up toward my bags, ran up to move them, ran back down to shoot in the water, as they played, turned around and gasped. The sky was on fire. Like truly, gorgeously, insanely in a way that I’ve never seen, on fire.
And this family—- oh this sweet, beautiful family. As a lifestyle photographer, I will provide families with some light prompts to encourage some more connection and tender moments. But sometimes, families just plain have it and bring it entirely on their own. A family that knows how to love and connect and just simply enjoy each other’s presence— their sessions will explode with joy and authenticity. You want the best tip for a success family shoot? Stop worrying about perfect poses and beach hair— instead just soak each other in, play together, and have genuine fun— and your shoot will be epic. I guarantee you.
